The Trip
Gabriel Duncan
Stepped of the sidewalk
Wiped the chalk off my truck
Stuffed the backpack in the trunk and drove off
A forest, perhaps, somewhere nice a quiet
The riot last night put me in a mood to take a load off
Subsisting of a diet on pine nuts and jerky
Quirky, huh?
The peyote made my stomach ache
I felt my stomach vacate and my dog was my best friend
Shedding wisdom two and fro
With a nod and an eery glow
In fact, everything around me had it
I thought I'd gone mad
Looking at it all
How tall the juggling trees
And the calming whisper of the sea
It seemed as if happiness had found me
But I was jolted by a crack
A twig snapped under the foot of a cackling jackle
That's when the moon became jagged
And I don't remember much after that
‘Sides the pain
When I woke up, I wailed in vain
The ambulance came
They thought I'd gone coma
“I just had to vomit! Fuck, leave me alone
Ah . . .”
I passed out again
What a week-end.
